Dear Families,

Halloween Celebrations at School...Things to Keep in Mind

Hi Families,

At Lake Bonavista School, we love celebrating Halloween.

- Costumes are to be worn in the afternoon only. Children will have an opportunity to change at lunch.

- Our school-wide Halloween Parade happens in the afternoon, families welcome to come watch.

- Morning kindergarten kids will do a mini-parade in the morning.

- Lake Bonavista School requests that costumes are ones that children can change into independently, that
do not interfere with learning and include school appropriate imagery, visuals and accessories.

If you would like to contribute to any treats for our afternoon celebration please email Mrs. Green.

A November Calendar will be going home next week for students who want to participate in Guest Reader. Guest reader is an opportunity for students to choose a just right book for them to independently read to the class. Short books that the student's know very well and one that will take them approximately 10min to read. If your child did not sign up to participate this month, they will have an opportunity to next month and so on. Students can also read to a small group rather than the large group.

Dear Families,

We began our morning reviewing our new sound of the day (Ll) as well as 2 words of the day Here and play.
Below are our weekly words - watch out in our communication folder for the list.

We had buddies today where they helped us sort out even and odd numbers as well as using the less than/more than/ vocabulary to plot the numbers onto a hundred board.

This afternoon we had Music and then were introduced to a game called Even Elsie and Odd Onslow. Ask me about how it is played.

Check our backpack out for our home reading. Students have chosen 2 books to read with you. Please read over the parent note when you get a chance.
We finished off our day reading a new Robert Munsch story illustrated by Jay Odjick.

Last Thursday, author Jace Jax and artist Henry Hama visited our school to read their new Kidsburgh Chronicles book: Little Jack Jarmagan - A Halloween Tale. The presentation was captivating, as they shared their personal stories in becoming an author and illustrator duo, and the long process behind creating a published book. Students were engaged as Jace read the rhyming verse of the book, and Henry explained the steps of creating characters, from sketchbook to digital illustrations.

Dear Families,

Today we introduced our Weekly Words list. This week some students are doing the "-at" family words. Others are working on the long a sound as well as learning how to spell some “No excuse words. Weekly Words are meant to help students learn different word families/sight words, and are meant to be a focus for each week. Students chose 8 words to focus on for the week. They write them out twice - one copy for school and one to bring home. You do not need to practice the words at home but I like to give you the option to! There are lots of fun ways to practice other than writing them. We have been introduced to a variety of math games and work with Room 9 to either teach a new game or learn a new game. We continue to work on number sense and will be investigating even and odd numbers later this week.
