IN-KIND-DONATIONS
Thank you to everyone who has made a generous contribution to Lake Bonavista Improvement Society’s IN-KIND-DONATIONS. We have raised just over $3000 this year! You can make a donation at any time throughout the school year. If you would like to donate, please click on the link below for a copy of the donation form.
Donations over $25.00 are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
In order to reach our fundraising goal, we need to raise an additional $40 per student to provide the same ongoing support as in previous years.
Please make cheques payable to LBIS (Lake Bonavista Improvement Society)

Lake Bonavista School is participating in Netball from February 3-7h in our gymnasium. This sport involves foundational movement skills such as jumping, running, throwing, and catching. As described on the Netball Alberta website (www.netballalberta.com)
“Netball is an exciting, fast and skillful game of fair contest: It is a game in which two teams of seven players each strive to keep or gain possession of the ball. Players have specified areas in which they can move.”

Parent Council has graciously provided the funding to bring this event into our school.

Consent forms will be sent home in your child’s communication folder. Please sign and return the forms so your child is able to participate in this fun LBS event!

Thanks,

Active Living

January 13, 2020

Hello Families,
We began our day in circle greeting each other, given gratitude to Mother Earth and sharing stories or artifacts with our peers.
Our weekly words are....

We continued on with our writing from Friday with the sentence starter...
When it's cold outside I like to...
Some students were introduced to using contractions in our writing.

We met with our buddies today. Ask me what my story was about and which LEAD my buddy and I used to make our story more interesting to our audience.
These are the leads that were introduced to students...

We also continue to work on our mask inquiry. Ask me about it.

Just a few things to remember...
  • Book orders are due Jan. 15
  • We have Library tomorrow
  • There was mail that went home today in the communication folder
  • No school on Friday Jan. - PD day
We had indoor recess all day today. We have been having conversations about the weather and using an interactive thermometer to compare our Calgary temperatures to temperatures in other parts of the world, specifically Australia due to the fact that one of our peers are on holiday there.
Thank you for making sure students are coming to school dressed for the weather.
Have a great evening.

Dear Families,
What a great start to the New year!! When learning about the January calendar, students had questions about Chinese New Year. We began reading the story below. One of the our classmates has been telling us about her culture and connection to Chinese New Year.

Some students are investigating number by...
increasing and decreasing- by how much?
 Place value riddles

We discussed adding detail to our plan/writing to make it more interesting to our audience.

These are our weekly words.

Ask me about the patterns of balances we are working on during Gymnastics.
Have a great evening.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics
We will begin gymnastics in our regularly scheduled gym classes on Monday, January 6, 2020.  The gymnastics unit will last approximately four weeks.  Safety routines, cooperation and good sportsmanship are taught and reviewed in each class.
This physical activity opportunity will help students acquire individual skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities.
It is important for students to come to school prepared for being actively engaged. The following guidelines are very helpful…

HEAD TO TOE - READY TO GO!!!
Head ....................... long hair pulled back
Ears/Throat/Wrist ............... jewelry off
Shirt.................................. one layer shirt
Waist ................................................tucked in
Pants.........................sporty pants or shorts, no belts or zippers
Ankles..........................pants rolled up if ankles are covered
Toes...............running shoes, gymnastic slippers or bare feet (no footed tights)

“Playing & moving safely is everyone’s responsibility”
